    Okay, I am going to ask what may be a stupid question. How do I “cut” a hole in the ceiling/floor for stairs or for an overlook into the great room from the upstairs? I seriously cannot find a video.

    Select the ceiling, rt-click, Cut Opening . . .
    Repeat for the floor.

    Um. Forgive this old woman for not being as swoof as you had hoped. Your instructions say:

    “Select the ceiling, rt-click, Cut Opening . . .
    Repeat for the floor. ”

     

    so I “selected ceiling. right clicked, then picked “picking points. and made a red dashed square above the stairs to make a stairwell. So, I see the red “dashed” box above my stairs. Going to the next floor, I attempted to follow the same instructions and I got a dark blue area whereby I would pick flooring. I managed to get some looped carpeting to cover the floor. Now, I have carpeting across the whole floor instead of a cutout. Things are not going according to plan. 🙁

    Please help and use just a few more keystrokes and explain “cut” for me.

    G’day again!
    In my book, mature beats “old” any day. I’m a “mature” designer! It’s very easy to change your perspective . . .
    So on the location where your stairs start, you have a ceiling with opening cut through it for the stairs.
    On the location where your stairs end, you have a floor that is carpeted.
    In Settings you may want to lower the dimming percentage (I use 66% mostly) This makes it easier to get your bearings relating to the lower floor. You can change it back later if you so desire.
    In View Filter, select the “end” location, Display None, then select to display Floors only.
    Make sure the “end” location is current. Select your carpeted floor. Hold down the SHIFT key & roll your mouse wheel 1 click to check if there are any other floors on that location. Right-click & choose the Cut Opening option.
    Pick points as required. If scrolling indicated a second floor (maybe concrete slab or timber framed floor), you’ll have to repeat the cut opening option on it as well.
    Be aware that if you don’t get the opening(s) quite right, you can then drag the edges of the opening to where they need to be (to provide adequate head clearance, for instance) Hover over the edge in question, the MOVE icon will display, then just click and drag . . .
